Adult Education – Sermons from the Book of Acts

Please stay with us after the first service or come early if you attend the second service to begin an uplifting series as we walk through the Sermons from the Book of Acts together. By close examination of these early sermons that ‘turned the world upside down’ converting hearers to Jesus we can see the major themes of Christian hope emerge. This can empower our own sharing of the Gospel message today!
 
This Sunday February 16 we will be looking at Peter’s first pronouncements from Acts 2, 3, 4.
Next Sunday February 23 we will be looking at Peter’s outreach to the Gentiles from Acts 10, 11.

Bishop Alex’s Visit

Bishop Alex will be visiting St. Alban’s on Sunday, February 16th.  In honor of his visit, there will be a pot luck luncheon after the second service as well as a canned good collection for our local food bank.  Please add your name to the signup for lunch, noting how many are coming and your dish to share.  As you gather your canned goods please check for expiration dates.

 

Women’s Service Group

Please plan to join St. Alban’s Women as we come together on Friday, February 7th for fellowship, an update on Veno and the Overseas Nursing Scholarship fund, and a chance to plan our service projects for the coming year. We look forward to seeing you at 10:00 AM this Friday in the church hall!

After only five years in the current Monroeville office, they are at capacity.  The appointment numbers have grown, and in the past year they have nearly doubled the number of pregnancy tests and ultrasounds performed there.  The smallest location has become the busiest of the three clinics run by Network of Life/Women’s Choice Network, serving over 40% of their total clients.
In order to serve more families they needed to expand.  In the Fall of 2024 Fall Banquet they learned that the space in Suite 222 had become available. This allows them to offer childbirth education classes, wellness programming, and small group parent education options.
With nearly double the square footage, they envision five immediate benefits:
1. More Availability for Appointments.  A larger reception area and additional exam rooms for ultrasounds and testing allow them to “double book” client appointments.
2. More Resources. Space has been set aside for a much-needed parent resource room with  baby items and furnishings.  Diapers, clothing, car seats, and more will be accessible on-site.
3. More Care. A large meeting room means space for childbirth classes, education, and gatherings on-site.
4. More Community Outreach. An “East Pittsburgh” hub will be housed here for church outreach, including Baby Bottle Campaigns, Church Ambassadors, and Life Conversation Boxes.
5. More Room to Grow Staff and Volunteers.
More than 167 moms chose life for their babies in 2024 at the current Monroeville location.  What if that number could double in 2025?

Adult Ed Class this Sunday February 2, 2025

Join us between services in the pews 9:45am-10:35am for a third session on Ancient Christianity.  Produced by Hillsdale College (and Fred says—the selections of art being used is the best he’s ever seen in such a lesson series!) our class encountered these questions about the forces that converged at the time of Jesus’ appearing:
Why did Jesus come when He did? Why not today?
What religious and philosophical truths were brought together by the Jews, the Greeks and the Romans at this time period?
What did these forces bring specifically to the early church spreading the Good News of Christ?
With the brilliant intro by Larry Arnn and the presentations by Ken Calvert, we are challenged to expand our thinking of how we witness to the TRUTH today. The early church has a seed bed of competing cultures to bring the universal King of Christ to—so do we today in our secular society increasingly unmoored by Christian devotion and practice.

This beloved booklet of reflections from members and friends of St. Alban’s is always much anticipated.  Although Lent does not begin until March 5th, it’s not too early to consider signing up for one or more of the dates.  You’ll find the sign-up sheet on the narthex table.

Adult Education Continues this Sunday January 17

Adult Ed was cancelled last Sunday but join us this Sunday January 17, 2025, between services in the pews 9:45am-10:35am to join Father David for a session on Ancient Christianity.

This mini-series will continue January 26 as well.

ADULT ED UPDATE-Christmas break — no class Dec 29 or Jan 5, we resume Jan 12 with Rev. Dr. David H. Grissom on Worldviews-Biblical vs others

ADULT ED is off Dec 29 and Jan 5 and will resume January 12, 2025 with 3 sessions on Worldviews that conflict with a Biblical Worldview–led by Rev. Dr. David H. Grissom. The series last winter that Father Dave presented set a tone that energized all our offerings after that—creating courageous Christians who lead their lives with a Biblical Worldview.
Many thanks to Lawrence Silverstein for his lessons on the scriptures and season of Advent Dec 8, 15, 22. He concentrated on the scriptures from the Torah (Dec 8), and the Prophets (Dec 15, 22).
Confirmed youth still living at home are super welcome to join us!
Once again, remember our break Dec 29 and January 5. We resume January 12, 2025 with Rev. Dr. David Grissom on worldviews for three weeks. New themes and topics will be forthcoming shortly as we fill in more of the Epiphany and Lenten schedules.
