Adult Education, Sunday April 6th

Thanks to Craig Huntington for his work Sunday March 30 presenting the testimonial sermons from Acts 21-23 when he is arrested in Jerusalem.
Adult Ed continues featuring these sermons of POWER as our church looks at confronting the world around us in these days.
The sermons in Acts were messages that changed the world. When we talk about Christian outreach with POWER this is what we are talking about. Be grounded in the prime message of the Cross of Christ and you will be prepared to share more powerfully in this time and place we live within…to those around us who need the Lord.
Jason Ingrassia will present the sermons of Paul in his defense in front of the courts in Caesarea after he is arrested in Jerusalem.
Paul is secreted to Caesarea for his own safety and has lengthy appeals in front of Felix and Festus and Herod Agrippa in Acts 24-26 this coming Sunday April 6–hearing this powerful testimony to yet another level of authorities gives us inspiration for our own testimonies.
Adult Ed meets in the pews from 9:45 to 10:35 am. All lessons are stand-alone — come when you can!
To prep this week, read through Acts 24-26 three times. Read through the section all at once, like a letter from home.
Reminder: To purchase your own copy of a Book of Common Prayer (BCP), 2019 Anglican Church of North America edition, contact: https://anglicanhousepublishers.org/the-shop/
BCPs start at around $30 for the editions like our pew prayer books. More expensive covers and bindings are available.
The link to the Hillsdale free online lessons on Ancient Christianity we watched led by Father David on 1/19, 1/26, 2/2 is here. The lessons we watched were 1, 3, 4. Lesson 4 is a terrific synopsis of the historic impact of the real Jesus on the land and times of his life.
Hope to see you with us in adult ed this Sunday!

Adult Education, March 2nd and 9th

The next two weeks we’ll be breaking from the Acts passages to enjoy Tim Lyon’s study of the Book of James. March 2 and 9.
Adult Ed meets in the pews from 9:45 to 10:35 am. All lessons are stand-alone — come when you can!
As homework, Tim has asked the class to read through the letter of James (it’s only 4 pages of our pew Bible) three times. Read through it each time as you are reading a letter from a friend-all at once. Do this three times.
Fred Carlson hosted another lesson on using the Daily Office lectionary during fellowship time after second service March 2. We had 9 people together learning how to use the Prayer Book Lectionary on 2/9 and it went really well. This time we had another 9 together. Adult Education – Sermons from the Book of Acts

Please stay with us after the first service or come early if you attend the second service to begin an uplifting series as we walk through the Sermons from the Book of Acts together. By close examination of these early sermons that ‘turned the world upside down’ converting hearers to Jesus we can see the major themes of Christian hope emerge. This can empower our own sharing of the Gospel message today!

This Sunday February 16 we will be looking at Peter’s first pronouncements from Acts 2, 3, 4.
Next Sunday February 23 we will be looking at Peter’s outreach to the Gentiles from Acts 10, 11.

Handouts provided. Join us from 9:45am to 10:35am this week and every week!

Adult Ed Sunday February 9

Please join the adult ed class this Sunday February 9, 2025, between services in the pews 9:45am-10:35am joining Jason Ingrassia, our newest vestry member, for a session on getting the most out of your scripture reading.
This is crucial to sharing your faith with others.
We also thank Father David for the recent bracing series of videos on ‘Why Jesus Came When He Did?’ from Hillsdale.
Any confirmed youth at home are welcome to join the series and all our adult education offerings!

Adult Ed Class this Sunday February 2, 2025

Join us between services in the pews 9:45am-10:35am for a third session on Ancient Christianity.  Produced by Hillsdale College (and Fred says—the selections of art being used is the best he’s ever seen in such a lesson series!) our class encountered these questions about the forces that converged at the time of Jesus’ appearing:
Why did Jesus come when He did? Why not today?
What religious and philosophical truths were brought together by the Jews, the Greeks and the Romans at this time period?
What did these forces bring specifically to the early church spreading the Good News of Christ?
With the brilliant intro by Larry Arnn and the presentations by Ken Calvert, we are challenged to expand our thinking of how we witness to the TRUTH today. The early church has a seed bed of competing cultures to bring the universal King of Christ to—so do we today in our secular society increasingly unmoored by Christian devotion and practice.
Any confirmed youth at home are welcome to join the series and all our adult education offerings!
We hope to see you there!

Adult Education Continues this Sunday January 17

Adult Ed was cancelled last Sunday but join us this Sunday January 17, 2025, between services in the pews 9:45am-10:35am to join Father David for a session on Ancient Christianity.

This mini-series will continue January 26 as well.
Any confirmed youth at home are welcome to join the series and all our adult education offerings!

ADULT ED UPDATE-Christmas break — no class Dec 29 or Jan 5, we resume Jan 12 with Rev. Dr. David H. Grissom on Worldviews-Biblical vs others

ADULT ED is off Dec 29 and Jan 5 and will resume January 12, 2025 with 3 sessions on Worldviews that conflict with a Biblical Worldview–led by Rev. Dr. David H. Grissom. The series last winter that Father Dave presented set a tone that energized all our offerings after that—creating courageous Christians who lead their lives with a Biblical Worldview.
Many thanks to Lawrence Silverstein for his lessons on the scriptures and season of Advent Dec 8, 15, 22. He concentrated on the scriptures from the Torah (Dec 8), and the Prophets (Dec 15, 22).
Confirmed youth still living at home are super welcome to join us!
Once again, remember our break Dec 29 and January 5. We resume January 12, 2025 with Rev. Dr. David Grissom on worldviews for three weeks. New themes and topics will be forthcoming shortly as we fill in more of the Epiphany and Lenten schedules.
Yours in Christ from the Adult Ed team—
Fred Carlson, Rev. Dr. David H. Grissom, Jason Ingrassia, Craig Huntington, Tim Lyon, Lawrence Silverstein, Deb Silverstein
